Brian Burke

Brian Burke previously held the position of Executive Director for the Nunavut Fisheries Association (NFA), representing Nunavut’s 100% Inuit owned commercial fishing industry.

NFA members harvest over $100 M in commercial species on an annual basis and support an annual NFA led Northern research program. NFA is a member of Canada’s Ocean Supercluster, currently partnering on two projects with SMEs in Atlantic Canada, and a member of the Arctic Economic Council (AEC), where the former Executive Director of NFA Brian sits on both the AEC’s Blue Economy and Infrastructure and Investment Working Groups.

Brian joined NFA in December 2016 and prior to that was Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) for the Ocean Technology and Arctic Opportunities branch and Assistant Deputy Minister (Acting) for the Innovation and Sector Development branch of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Department of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development. He joined BTCRD in 2014 from the private sector where he managed his own consulting company for 15 years.

Brian holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree and Masters of Business Administration from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Brian currently works in a new position as a Senior Project Manager with Qikiqtaaluk Corporation (QC) as of Sept 2022.
