Senior Marine Biologist/Marine Sciences Team Lead

Justin So is a senior marine biologist with WSP E&I Canada, whose work is focused on assessing the effects of natural resource projects on the marine environment. He has more than 15 years of experience in marine environmental consultancy and currently leads the Marine Sciences team in the Atlantic region.
His work has spanned coastal and offshore environments for marine industries such as oil and gas, renewables, mining, and infrastructure development. Justin is active in the fields of marine environmental characterization, environmental effects monitoring (EEM), and environmental assessment (EA). He has been involved in numerous oil and gas environmental assessments for seismic, exploration drilling, and production projects. He has conducted marine characterization projects throughout Newfoundland and Labrador using underwater visual surveys, fish and invertebrate sampling, and water and sediment sampling.
More recently, he has been involved in monitoring of exploration drilling and petroleum production projects associated with EA conditions. Justin holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Biology from Memorial University and a Graduate Diploma in Science Communications from Laurentian University. He has previously held board positions with Econext (2020-2023) and Nature Newfoundland and Labrador (2016-2023).
