Technological changes are rapidly transforming our ocean industries impacting career choices for today’s students, the workforce of tomorrow. We see rapid developments every day, yet many young people are not aware of the promising careers required to support the growth of our ocean industry sectors over the next 5-10 years.

The Ocean Careers Immersion Program (OCIP) helps youth explore these opportunities by connecting them online with ocean professionals and immersing them in real world projects and virtual work site visits. Our mentors help them navigate towards rewarding careers in NL ocean industries.

Virtual Mentoring

Ocean Careers Immersion Program’s virtual mentoring platform connects ocean professionals from participating companies with high school students across the province for interactive CLASSROOM CONNECTIONS and four-week TEAM MENTORSHIPS. The interactive sessions are fully facilitated and moderated and focus on sharing the passions and paths of our mentors.

CLASSROOM CONNECTIONS

Fully facilitated 45miniute online discussions with a high-school class, or two.  The focus is on your passions, career path, and current projects.   Due to the wonderful response to this program offering our FALL Classroom Connections availability has reached maximum school capacity. However, we are always seeking new mentors for involvement in these dynamic sessions.

TEAM MENTORING

Highly motivated students apply to be part of a small team (4-6) that connect with you virtually once a week through our MentorCity platform. They’ll offer insights into your work on a real-world project. Students are engaged because we match them to our mentors and projects based on their own areas of interest.

Are you an ocean professional that wants to help make a difference in a young person’s life?

Do you want to share your personal and professional experiences about how you chose your career path, the impact of your projects, and the team that makes them happen?
