The Conference is fast approaching and Oceans ’14 is full speed ahead with more than 100 exhibitors, hundreds of presentations  and thousands of delegates. No one can take it all in, but every delegate can be assured of an immersive experience Among the special groups targeted at the Conference are educators who have been issued a special invite by organizers.

MTS / IEEE and  The Marine Institute‘s Ocean Innovation Series are presenting the fifth Annual Educators Workshop on Ocean Education in the Classroom, Sept. 15, 2014 at  Fisheries and  Marine Institute of Memorial University, Ridge Road, St. John’s, NL.

The workshop is free but seats are limited, early registration is encouraged for those who wish to guarantee their place. Funds may be available to cover the cost of substitute teachers in Newfoundland.

The rationale for targeting educators with this special session is based on the premise that 21st Century skill sets require engaged and critical thinkers.

The oceans which surround this province provide an underutilized resource for intriguing secondary students with real learning experiences in science and technical fields. These are precisely the fields which offer lucrative careers with growth potential and international employment opportunities. This workshop will craft a strategy to bring experiential learning to NL students.
