- Core Activities
Genesis helps build amazing companies.
As Newfoundland and Labrador’s pre-eminent innovation hub, Genesis is known for its flagship incubator program, Enterprise, which began 25 years ago. Since its inception, Genesis has expanded its programming to support start-ups from the ideation stage all the way to scaling their business. Genesis’ mission is to create economic wealth for the province by developing and supporting technology entrepreneurs.
Understanding that innovation can be largely shaped by geography, Genesis offers a collaborative space on top of Signal Hill, perched above the city of St. John’s. It is an open space that fosters creativity and a place where local start-ups have taken residence. It also is a place that stimulates continuous learning and where best practices are shared. Since opening in 1997, Genesis companies have raised $624M in private capital, $220M of annual recurring revenues are generated, and more than 2500 jobs have been created.
Today, Genesis continues to build on its storied past by strengthening the entrepreneurial community and engaging the public and the private sector.
Our flagship 3-year incubator program is designed to help technology start-ups in growing their business and get to Product Market Fit. Start-ups accepted to the program have access to a wide range of resources and programs.
Together with St. John’s most innovative companies, technology start-ups in the Enterprise program will have access to Genesis’ office space located at Emera’s Innovation Exchange on Signal Hill. This includes desk space within Genesis’ collaborative office space.
Each Enterprise start-up will have access to Genesis’ network of expert mentors and advisors. Whether it be industry thought leaders or seasoned entrepreneurs, start-ups will receive valuable guidance and meaningful connections that will help grow their business.
Genesis offers Enterprise start-ups free access to its suite of entrepreneurial programs. Delivered by industry partners, such workshops include best practices regarding marketing, finance and sales.
The Enterprise program is for start-ups who:
Are technology based
Have developed a minimum viable product
Have less than $1M in annual revenues
Have gotten traction in the market (i.e. sales, users, etc.)
Have completed Genesis’ Evolution program or an approved equivalent program
