As part of its role in co-hosting a five-delegate exploratory mission from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil to this province, June 19 – 20, 2013, OceansAdvance and the City of St. John’s will co-host a Speakers Series breakfast at 9:00 a.m. at the NRC Building. This session will be followed by a roundtable to exchange ideas and identify opportunities for business development, partnering, and R&D collaborations in this exciting region of Brazil.

Rio Grande do Sul is the most southerly State in Brazil and is rapidly building its capability and capacity to optimize opportunities in the oil and gas, shipbuilding, and oceans/marine sectors. OceansAdvance has a MOU with F.U.R.G. and this visit flows from ongoing discussions over the last few months.

The guest speaker at the Breakfast Session will be F.U.R.G Vice President Dr. Danilo Giroldo. He will address the background to industry, research, and development growth and opportunities for partnering in Rio Grande do Sul. As well he will articulate how critical collaboration is between academia and industry to make the most of opportunities for economic development.

The five Brazilian delegates include senior representatives from Rio Grande do Sul Development Agency, the Federation of Industries of Rio Grande do Sul and the Governor’s Office of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (F.U.R.G).
