Northern Lights 2014 will be held in Ottawa, Ontario from January 29 – February 1, 2014. A joint venture of the Baffin Regional Chamber of Commerce in Iqaluit and the Labrador North Chamber of Commerce in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, this premiere business and cultural showcase of the eastern Arctic and North (Nunavut, Nunavik and Labrador/Nunatsiavut) is expected to attract more than 200 exhibits and 1,500 participants. This four-day event aims to forge stronger business partnerships between northern and southern regions of Canada, profile the economic development opportunities in the North, and promote joint ventures and relationship building between the various regions.
The Conference provides a key opportunity to further the mandate and goals of the Arctic Opportunities Initiative. During the Conference, the Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development will work closely with industry and other partners to increase awareness of Newfoundland and Labrador’s strengths, capabilities and experience with Arctic-related activities. The Initiative recognizes the province is well positioned to enter key strategic partnerships and work with key stakeholders to develop these opportunities for mutual benefit. The Conference provides a key venue for furthering these relationships, in partnership with industry, academia and the federal government.
During Northern Lights 2014, the Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development, Nalcor Energy, the Labrador North Chamber of Commerce and the St. John’s Board of Trade will be hosting a networking event to facilitate discussion among Newfoundland and Labrador firms and with national or international companies regarding Northern opportunities, including those in Labrador, and the potential for joint ventures and partnerships. This would be a forum for one-to-one networking to gather market intelligence and explore potential partnerships that could increase a company’s capacity to participate in the supply chain of projects in northern climates.
NOTE: To help offset travel costs for this event, a travel stipend was available for qualified and approved businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador that wish to attend the networking event and Northern Lights 2014, however thje application was supposed to be received by Jan 13, 2014.
