Noia Oil & Gas Conference 2018
Redefining Oil: The Time for Change
Session One
Industry Outlook
Findings of the Fraser Institute’s 2017 Global Petroleum Survey underline the ever-changing nature of the oil & gas industry, with Newfoundland and Labrador now ranking as the most attractive Canadian jurisdiction for oil & gas investment and British Columbia and Alberta named least-attractive. This session will take a closer look at the survey results, including the impact of the regulatory environment, political stability, taxation and other factors on the findings. Delegates will also hear from the president of ExxonMobil Canada on the company’s offshore projects in this province and globally, as well as from Nalcor Energy on recent geoscience work and how Newfoundland and Labrador fits within the global industry.
Session Two
Regulatory Change and the Need for Speed to Market
Changing regulatory regimes have a direct impact on project timelines and jurisdictions like Norway lead the way in speed to market. A speaker from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate will share best practices and lessons learned from their experiences. This session will also feature an update from Husky Energy on current offshore Newfoundland and Labrador projects, including recently sanctioned Husky wellhead platform.
Session Three
Panel Discussion: Innovation and Collaboration
TBA
Session Four
Change with Innovation
In the current environment of lower oil prices, high costs and increasing complexity, the need to innovate has never been more crucial for the oil & gas industry. Session delegates will hear from Fortis Inc. on the need to innovate and adapt to changing energy markets. This session will also feature Kraken Robotics, an NL-based marine technology company and local innovation success story. Tying it all together is a presentation on the Ocean Supercluster’s successful proposal under the Government of Canada’s Innovation Superclusters initiative, including what it could mean for local businesses.
Session Five
Disruptive Technology: Embracing CHANGE
Today’s global oil & gas sector is operating in an environment of unprecedented opportunity, coupled with a high degree of volatility and risk. In a world of compressed margins, this session will focus on how companies are embracing changing technology and actively seeking ways to transform their existing operating models to create sustainable cost efficiency in their operations. Featuring speakers from Statoil Canada, Aker Solutions and OneSubsea, this session will take a closer look at how this can be accomplished, from advancements in subsea standardization to lean development solutions.
Session Six
Change: The Time is Now
While the demand for oil is forecast to increase through 2040, the global outlook for energy is changing. During the transition to low-carbon based energy, the world will need a supply of stable, predictable and lower carbon petroleum – such as Newfoundland and Labrador’s conventional light crude. The time is now to maximize the incredible resource potential that lies off this province’s shores. This closing session will feature speakers from BP Canada and Kvaerner Canada to discuss their experiences in navigating the challenges related to the drive for cleaner emissions, carbon pricing and increased environmental protection requirements.
