THEME: Advanced Underwater Technology for the Ocean
The International Symposium on Underwater Technology 2013 (UT13) to be held in Tokyo, from March 5 – 8, 2013, includes a series of symposia organized by the IEEE OES Japan Chapter, the University of Tokyo’s Institute of Industrial Science (IIS), Earthquake Research Institute and Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC).

UT13 will provide a thematic umbrella under which attendees will discuss the problems and potential long-term solutions that concern not only the Pacific Rim countries, but the world in general. As the meeting will be held after two years since the giant earthquake that struck North-Eastern Coast of Japan, we have decided to organize a special session for “Underwater Technology for Disaster Mitigation and Prevention.” to discuss possible measures to counter the disasters caused by the earthquakes and tsunami.
