Nominations are now open for four vacant positions on the board of Oceans Advance Inc. Interested candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Each nominee must be a current member of Oceans Advance. 
  • Each nomination must have two references via email (a mover and a seconder) and both the mover & seconder must be members of Oceans Advance.
  • Each nominee must submit an email to Oceans Advance confirming acceptance; and
  • Each nominee must submit a short bio and headshot to Oceans Advance to have your name included on the ballot no later than April 26, 2024.

Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Announces First Two Projects from Green Transition Fund to support the effective, sustained and timely transition to a green economy, and to realize the province’s net zero goals, the Honourable Andrew Parsons, KC, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, today announced the first two projects to receive funding from the Green Transition Fund. The combined investment in two projects totals just over $349,000.

Canada’s Ocean Supercluster, with the involvement of the Ocean AI Strategy Steering Committee, is embarking on an exciting journey to gauge our industry’s understanding and application of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Every organization’s insights are invaluable. Based on your experience and expertise, your insights will help uncover the true use and potential for AI support that can be developed for Canada. econext launches the Tides of Opportunities video series stemmed from a number of in-person events and real-time demonstrations where both students and skilled professionals could learn directly from industry leaders about available and emerging ocean cleantech careers in Newfoundland and Labrador.


Memorial University’s Cold Oceans and Northern Initiative recently launched a new webpage to share job listings, event information, funding opportunities, and much more, all related to cold ocean and northern research, teaching and learning, and public engagement activities across Memorial’s campuses. Next up? We’re launching a bimonthly newsletter, featuring news items, events listings, internal and external opportunities, submitted photography, and special features, focusing on Memorial’s students, faculty, partnerships, and facilities. There will be a prize draw at the end of April for a Memorial gift basket. Everyone who subscribes between now and April 30th will be automatically entered to win.


The fall issue of the Journal of Ocean Technology (JOT) will focus on sensing the ocean. In this issue, we’ll look at how lights, cameras, sensors, and similar technologies are being used to monitor the ocean. Tell our readers around the globe about your work in this area! We invite the submission of peer-reviewed technical papers, essays, and short articles. The JOT is published in open access format, making each issue accessible to anyone, anywhere in the world.

Opportunities

Un2novation call for projects open until April 15th aimed at Canadian start-ups and small companies in the field of OceanTech.  In2novation, established in 2020, is a program to support cross-innovation between France and Canada funded by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation (MESR) and the Canadian Ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISDE). Its mission is to create synergies between French and Canadian innovation ecosystems in favor of the protection and enhancement of global public goods.




The Canada-NL Job Grant provides significant tuition assistance to eligible businesses and organizations to help offset the cost of training for their current and future employees. If you are a private sector employer, not-for-profit organization, Indigenous government or organization, incorporated, or a sole proprietor, you may be eligible.

The Department of Industry, Energy and Technology (IET) is pleased to announce that plans are underway for a Newfoundland and Labrador delegation to attend the World Hydrogen 2024 Summit & Exhibition associated events in Rotterdam, Netherlands (May 12-15, 2024).


Innovation Forum April 23-24, Vancouver Convention Centre

ABCMI in partnership with COAST will be providing two days of panels, speakers, and industry showcase presentations embracing emerging technologies and innovation in the ocean and marine space. Not only will this forum be for all those companies directly or indirectly involved in bringing innovative new products and services to market but also for all entrepreneurial businesses progressing through the Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) spectrum from idea to commercialization. The event will also feature plenty of networking opportunities with government and private sector entities as a well as a small trade show for exhibitors wanting to show off their cutting edge products.
