It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Karl Kenny, founder and former CEO of Kraken Robotics. Karl was a proud Newfoundlander and a leader in underwater technology development. His contribution to the ocean technology ecosystem ran far beyond the shores of Newfoundland & Labrador. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Kenny’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

Energy Research & Innovation Newfoundland & Labrador (ERI) and the Digital Resource Initiative (DRI) are hosting Digital Offshore ’25, a conference about industry trends and insights on opportunities and challenges presented by the digital transformation of Newfoundland and Labrador’s energy sector.  

This event will be held at the St. John’s Convention Centre from March 25-26, 2025. 

In partnership with Oceans Advance, an optional Ecosystem Tour of local facilities and tech companies will take place on Thursday, March 27, 2025 (space is limited).


R&I Collaboration with Europe: Funding and Cooperation Opportunities

Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada (ISED) is organizing info sessions on research and innovation (R&I) collaboration opportunities with Europe across Eastern Canada:

  • March 24 — Montreal (AM Session: French, PM Session: English)
  • March 26 — Halifax
  • March 28 — Holyrood (Marine Institute – the Launch, Holyrood)

These sessions will cover the following topics:

  • Canada’s association to Horizon Europe—What does it mean?
  • An overview of Horizon Europe Pillars 1 & 2 and where to get support
  • An intro to the administrative, legal, and financial aspects of Horizon Europe projects
  • An intro to Eureka—The world’s largest international network for industrial research & development collaboration
  • Testimonials from successful Canadian participants

As space is limited, the ISED Horizon Europe Secretariat will review registrations to ensure that a broad array of Canadian stakeholders have an equal opportunity to access each session. We will confirm your attendance by email on March 14 and provide more information ahead of the event.
