Focus: rapid interrogation and integration of complex source data from multiple organizations


Hibernia Enhanced Oil Recovery Lab

Focus: dedicated to providing laboratory and simulation support to the enhanced oil recovery activities of the oil and gas industry and to solving fundamental problems of multiphase flow. 

Core Research Equipment & Instrument Training Network (CREAIT)

Focus: Designed to maximize the impact of Memorial University’s institutional investments in research through enhanced access to and utilization of major research equipment 

 

Bonne Bay Marine Station

Focus: marine biology and environmental studies teaching, research and public engagement.

 

Memorial University Technical Services

Biomedical, electronic and mechanical services including computer repair, electronic design, instrument repair, computer network installation, machining, glass-blowing, welding and fabrication of scale models

Memorial University Libraries

Collections in many subject areas including marine biology, polar studies, maritime history, ocean engineering, marine geology and ocean technology.

 

Fisheries and Marine Institue of Memorial University (MI)

MUN’s dedicated marine-focused education and research institution, established 50 years ago in 1965.

 

MI provides industry-driven training, producing about 70% of all English-speaking seafarers in Canada, and also carries out applied research for private and public sector clients. 

 

Centre for Marine Simulation

Focus: training, educational, and research and development ranging from computer-based part-task simulators to large and complex full mission simulation. 

 

Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Resources

Focus: sustainable development of the aquatic resources through collaborative industrial research and development, technology transfer and education services to the global

fishing industry. 

 

Focus: Product and process development; technology
transfer; advisory services and industrial training in three theme areas: seafood processing, aquaculture and marine bioprocessing. 

Centre for Fisheries Ecosystem Research (CFER) 

Focus: research on Newfoundland and Labrador sheries and the sustainability of stocks

Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation 

Focus: gives the shing, seafood and aquaculture industry easy access to the scienti c and technological facilities and expertise of Memorial University in order to solve problems and take advantage of opportunities 

Focus: safety and emergency response training and applied research for the o shore petroleum, marine transportation, and shing industries 

Centre for Applied Ocean Technology 

Focus: undertakes applied R&D in two areas: ocean mapping and ocean observations systems

Holyrood Marine Base

Focus: a venue for ocean research and marine training, including access to research vessels of various sizes

The College of the North Atlantic maintains a number of specialized facilities for teaching and research 

Innovative Product Development Centre

Focus: product development research and design support services

Manufacturing Technology Centre

Focus: Manufacturing prototype development support

Materials and Nanotechnology Research Lab

Focus: Supports research into various aspects of nanotechnology including materials characterization, amorphous semiconductors, surfactants and polymers, self assemblies, nano-photo-mechanical systems and nonlinear optics. 

Petroleum Specialty Centre

Focus: petroleum production, well control, fluid hydraulics and industrial instrumentation.

Wave Energy Research Centre

Focus: development of ocean wave-powered pump technology to support on-shore multi-trophic aquaculture. 

CENTRE FOR COLD OCEANS RESOURCE ENGINEERING (C-CORE)

 

 

 

 

Focus: behavior and prevalence of sea ice and icebergs, as well as risk mitigation techniques such as satellite-based ice monitoring and physical management of ice 

 

 

 

 

FISHERIES AND OCEANS CANADA 

Has the lead federal role in managing Canada’s sheries and safeguarding its waters 

Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Centre

Focus: research on eastern Canadian Fisheries and the sustainability of stocks. 

 

NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL OF CANADA (NRC)

Government of Canada’s premier research and technology organization (RTO) works with clients and partners, we provide innovation support, strategic research, and scienti c and technical services 

Ocean, Coastal and River Engineering (OCRE)

Focus: provides consulting and applied research services and tools across all three areas of numerical modeling, physical modeling and full-scale testing.
