CMS MARKS PASSING OF JIM EVELY

Jim Evely, the main simulation technologist for the Centre for Marine Simulation, passed away recently after a short illness. Jim was a multi-talented specialist whose knowledge and innovative skills covered the length and breadth of all the Centre's simulation equipment. His supervision and work with graduate students on project at the facility resulting in many of the advances that allowed CMS to remain independent of many of its vendors. His passing is a great loss for the facility and for the CMS team and for the Oceans Cluster. He will be missed. Read more.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INVESTING IN NL INNOVATION

ST. JOHN’S (NL) – MAY 23, 2012 – As part of the Federal Government’s Economic Action Plan 2012, Peter Penashue, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and President of the Queen’s Privy Council, today announced major investments to support and promote innovation and research and development in Newfoundland and Labrador. This funding supports advancements in the province’s ocean technology cluster, IT industry, and medical research fields.   Read more.

LEADING PROVINCIAL SCIENTIST TO RECEIVE PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

Jacques Yves Guigné has been selected by the Institute of Acoustics (IOA) to be the 2013 recipient of its most prestigious award, the Rayleigh Medal.   In a letter congratulating Guigné, Trevor Cox, President of the  IOA, wrote: “I am pleased to be the first to congratulate you. The Rayleigh Medal is our premier award, awarded to persons of undoubted renown for outstanding contributions to acoustics.”   Read more.
