IEEE NL ISSUES SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS

The IEEE Newfoundland and Labrador Section in cooperation with Memorial University of Newfoundland will hold the twenty-first Annual Newfoundland Electrical and Computer Engineering Conference (NECEC) Thur., Nov. 8, 2012 at the Holiday Inn, 180 Portugal Cove Road St. John's, Newfoundland.   In the lead up to the event the Newfoundland section of the IEEE has issued a second call for papers with firm dates of Sept 10 for abstract submission and Sept. 24 for notification of acceptance.   Read more.

23 August 2012 –The World Ocean Council will convene the initial meeting of the “Arctic Business Leadership Council” (Reykjavik, 16 September, 2012) to develop coordinated, multi-sectoral industry input to the Arctic Council’s Sustainable Development Working Group’s “Informal Business Dialogue” (Reykjavik, 17 September, 2012) where it will be one of the parties. WRECK OF THE S.S. TERRA NOVA LOCATED OFF GREENLAND

During routine functional performance testing of the mutibeam mapping echo sounders on the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s flagship R/V Falkor in July 2012, the team aboard — including researchers from the University of New Hampshire, Ifremer, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution — discovered the S.S. Terra Nova, a whaler, sealer and polar exploration ship that sunk offshore Greenland in September 1943 after being damaged by ice.
