FFAW CALLS CNLOPB TO REVOKE SEISMIC PERMIT

(June 08, 2012, St. John’s) - FFAW President Earle McCurdy has called on the Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board to immediately revoke the permit of a seismic prospecting company which conducted seismic surveys on prime fishing grounds in clear violation of the schedule they were supposed to follow. “We’ve had enough of it,” Mr. McCurdy said. “This is the second year in a row that seismic companies have interfered with our fishery.” Read more.

FRCC Releases "Towards Recovered and Sustainable Groundfish Fisheries in Eastern Canada"

Halifax, N.S. Sept. 15, 2011 – The Fisheries Resource Conservation Council (FRCC) released today to the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, its report entitled, Towards Recovered and Sustainable Groundfish Fisheries in Eastern Canada. The report provides guidance for promoting the recovery of groundfish stocks (with an emphasis on cod) in Eastern Canada and the rebuilding of sustainable fisheries based on those stocks. Read more.
