INTERNATIONAL ENROLLMENT CLIMBS AT MI

A rise in enrolment of international students in the advanced diploma programs can only mean one thing: the Marine Institute (MI) is attracting worldwide attention for its quality programs.   This fall, international students in MI’s advanced diploma programs make up eighty percent of all students enrolled in the four programs. Traditionally, these programs have seen approximately 20 percent international students, with the remainder coming from across Canada.   Read more.

ACOA INVESTS IN MARINE INSTITUTE

 May 06, 2013 - St. John's, NL: The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland will further expand its capacity in the aquaculture and seafood processing and ocean technology industries through two investments made by the Government of Canada.  The $876,600 announcement was made today by the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of National Revenue and Minister for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

BUDGET 2013 A STRONG COMMITMENT TO FISHERIES SCIENCE AND RESEARCH

Monday, April 15, 2013: Fisheries science and research initiatives are key investments in Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future. The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, highlighted over $2 million being provided to the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research and other cod recovery and fisheries science initiatives.

MTS-MI (STUDENT) PRESENTATION PROGRAM SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

Marine Institute Instructors have vast and varied levels of experience and knowledge from many marine industries. Instructors often possess untapped expertise and/or interests in marine fields that extend beyond the topics they teach in the classroom.

The MTS-MI (student) chapter has developed a Presentation Program that provides a forum for interested instructors to talk to students and colleagues on any marine-related topic.

SHEA NAMED MI'S NEW ASSOCIATE VICE-PRESIDENT

February 7, 2013, St. John's NL: The Fisheries and Marine Institute has named Dr. Robert Shea as its new associate vice-president (academic and student affairs). Dr. Shea's appointment was approved by Memorial University's Board of Regents on Thursday, Feb. 7.

Dr. Shea was the unanimous choice of the search committee. He will join the institute in his new position on June 4, 2013.
