AQUACULTURE PRODUCTION IN 2013 EXCEEDS RECORD $180 MILLION

(St. John's, NL; 02 Jan. 2014) The provincial aquaculture industry is expected to achieve record-breaking production value two years in a row, as it is projected to generate more than $180 million in 2013. In 2012, the total production value of provincial finfish and shellfish aquaculture exceeded $120 million.

AQUACULTURE CONSULTATIONS UNDERWAY

The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture has begun consultations to provide interested parties with an overview of the Provincial Aquaculture Strategy. They began on November 25 and will continue until Friday, December 13, 2013. MUSSEL FARM TO PURSUE GLOBAL MARKETING CAMPAIGN

Fisheries and Aquaculture: 23 August 2013 - Ocean Fresh Mussels Limited will develop a new worldwide promotional strategy with Provincial Government support. The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, and MHA for the Isles of Notre Dame, announced $55,320 under the Fisheries Technology and New Opportunities Program to enhance the company’s marketing efforts.

NEW MUSSEL MARKETING CAMPAIGN SUPPORTED BY PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT

June 11, 2013: The provincial mussel industry will engage in a new promotional campaign aimed at increasing sales in Canada, the U.S.A., and China with support from the Provincial Government’s Fisheries Technology and New Opportunities Program. The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture announced $86,000 in funding today, which will be used to coordinate marketing activity across the industry, expand participation at international tradeshows, and promote the quality and sustainability certifications that producers and processors have recently earned.
