Since mid-June the ocean innovation sector in this province has had a strong advocate serving as assistant deputy minister (Innovation and Strategic Industries) in the Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development. The announcement was made June 18 by Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador.

“I welcome Mr. Ploughman to the provincial public service,” said the Premier. “His 26 years experience in the private sector will be a strong asset in his new role, and I look forward to his contributions.”

Prior to this appointment Mr. Ploughman served the last 16 years with Lotek Wireless Inc., a multinational technology firm specializing in the design and manufacture of advanced wildlife telemetry equipment. Most recently, he was General Manager of the St. John’s facility and played a key role in the development and markleting of technology for marine tracking.
