The Centre for Marine Simulation at the Marine Institute, with the National Research Council and Kongsberg Maritime, received support funding from PRNL, the Atlantic Innovation Fund,  RDC NL and Kongsberg Maritime for a project that aims to improve the safety and efficiency of oil and gas operations in harsh, ice rich regions. This project, with total estimated costs of $8.6 million, seeks to develop dynamic positioning system technologies for ship operations in such environments. A training simulator will be developed for prototype testing and for the preliminary training of appropriate personnel. This will lead to the development of a commercial dynamic positioning in ice product for real-time operations.
