Rick Spinrad is stepping down from his position as President-Elect of the Marine Technology Society to become chief scientist of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). President Obama announced his appointment May 8, 2014.
We congratulate Rick on his new appointment, although we will miss his many contributions to our Society. His thoughtful insights on our vision and future, as well as our place in the global ocean community, during his 18 months on the Board have proved invaluable.
I would also like to assure you at this time that the MTS leadership is addressing the need to identify a President and President-Elect in the upcoming elections. The Society has many able and well-qualified individuals who would serve MTS well. Please be sure to read Currents and visit our homepage (www.MTSociety.org) to keep up-to-date.
