Collaboration Between Newfoundland and Labrador and Iceland Continues to Grow

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on Thursday, June 11, between the Fisheries and Marine Institute (MI) of Memorial University of Newfoundland and Matís Ltd. will provide a framework for the advancement of fisheries and oceans-related education, training and research and development between Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and Iceland.   Read more.

MEMBER OF ICELAND OCEAN CLUSTER AWARDED 2015 ICELAND INNOVATION PRIZE

  Icelandic company Zymetech, which develops and manufactures formulations containing marine-derived enzymes for therapeutic application, received the 2015 Iceland Innovation Prize yesterday morning.   Minister of Industry and Commerce Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir presented Zymetech’s research and development manager Ágústa Guðmundsdóttir, who is also a professor of food chemistry at the University of Iceland, with the prize.   Read more.

FISHERIES RESEARCH RECEIVES A BOOST FROM THE PROVINCE

(St. John's, NL: 19 Feb. 2015) Fisheries science research on three different species will be advanced with support from the provincial government. The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, today announced $92,850 through the Fisheries Research Grant Program to help the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research study mackerel, cod, and halibut.
