Newfoundland

The Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour (AESL) invites you to an information session on provincial skills training and immigration programs available to ocean technology sector employers .

AESL works with employers and collaborates with private post-secondary institutions, Memorial University and College of the North Atlantic to ensure the province has a skilled workforce and highly educated graduates to participate in and contribute to their communities,

The Department also provides supports to meet labour market demands, increase labour force participation, facilitate immigration, promote multiculturalism and support adult literacy to strengthen individual self-reliance.

Such supports include immigration programs (i.e., the Provincial Nominee Program and the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program), grants to help organizations to train their employees, wage subsidies to help employers hire employees and an easy to use human resource toolkit.

Information on Upcoming Immigration Recruitment Missions

The Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour’s Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism is currently inviting employers and business organizations, who are experiencing challenges in hiring locally, to accompany the Office, or to promote job offers, at three upcoming recruitment events:

·         Destination Canada, November 13-19, 2017

·         Tour of Rural regions of France, November 20-24, 2017

·         Jobs Expo in Cork, Ireland, November 25, 2017

These three events all hold excellent opportunities for Newfoundland and Labrador employers to recruit skilled workers directly from overseas. The events will allow employers to collaborate with the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism to recruit workers to the province.

It is important that we consistently promote Newfoundland and Labrador as a destination to live and work. Participation in immigration recruitment events is key to increasing immigrant attraction. Our presence at events like these support this promotion and also assists local employers who have clearly demonstrated they are unable to fill jobs locally. Employers wishing to attend this event are asked to pay their own travel expenses.

Destination Canada is a francophone skilled worker recruitment mission. The Canadian Embassy in Paris hosts this event in partnership with the other Canadian provinces and territories, including the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. It offers Canadian employers the opportunity to reach bilingual skilled workers from a variety of sectors who are looking for employment opportunities in Canada. The event will take place in Paris, France and Brussels, Belgium from November 13-19, 2017.

IMPORTANT: Employers can post jobs on the Destination Canada website even if they are unable to attend the fair in person. You can register your business and post jobs here: http://www.destination-canada-forum-emploi.ca/employeur_pourquoi.php?lang=en

France and Belgium offer a rich source of skilled bilingual potential job seekers who can fill the staffing demands of certain key sectors in Newfoundland and Labrador. Some sectors include health care services, information technology, hospitality, and transportation.

There is a full suite of opportunities for employers to participate in this event, including:

  • A four day job fair for Canadian employers and targeted to key sectors
  • On-site and advance preparation support from the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism
  • A free, comprehensive, targeted advertising campaign to attract the right job-seekers.
  • A 10% Air Canada discount
  • An accommodation package offered by Mega Tour.

If you are unable to attend this event, but would still like to be promoted to skilled workers at Destination Canada, we can take job offers and advertise them to potential candidates.

The Tour of Rural regions of France is designed to capitalize on the Destination Canada event to continue the recruitment of francophone skilled workers and promotion of the province to residents in other towns and cities in France. Recruiting from rural regions of France offer the chance to reach populations who may be more receptive to the idea of living and working in non-urban and coastal areas. This offers an undeniable opportunity for employers to maximize their return on investment by reaching many more people around France. The event will take place from November 20-24, 2017 (just after Destination Canada).

Two provinces will be participating: New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador. The Réseau Immigration Francophones du Terre-Neuve et Labrador (RIF-TNL) will also be participating. Government representatives and the RIF-TNL will hold information sessions in Strasbourg (Northern France), Nice, Montpellier and Annecy (Southern France), followed by question and answer periods. More than 500 potential candidates will attend these sessions, and the RIF-TNL connects employers AND candidates to services in their native language (French and English).

If you are unable to attend this event, but would still like to be promoted to skilled workers in rural regions of France, we can take job offers and advertise them to potential candidates.

Job Expo in Cork, Ireland

This event will bring together employers, skilled workers and representatives from the Canadian federal and provincial governments for an all day Job Expo showcasing the jobs and opportunities in Canada. With historical and socio-cultural commonalities and geographical proximity (4.5 hours by flight), Ireland represents an undeniable opportunity to recruit skilled workers who are keen to live and work in Newfoundland and Labrador. Irish skilled workers are keen to work and bring their families to this province, and they have multiple skills in demand throughout the province.

See https://www.jobsexpo.ie/jobs-cork/ for more details on this event.

Newfoundland and Labrador employers are warmly invited to attend this event along with representatives from the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism. Employers wishing to attend this event are asked to pay their own travel expenses. The Job Expo will take place on November 25, 2017. If you are unable to attend this event, but would still like to be promoted to skilled workers in Ireland, we can take job offers and advertise them to potential candidates.
