Dr. David Murrin was appointed as Operations Director Canada for Wood Group Kenny in September 2014 to lead the newly established St. John’s office, and has operating responsibility for the Company’s activity in Canada. Dr. Murrin brings a record of achievement and demonstrated success initiating, negotiating and stewarding multimillion-dollar R&D projects for the oil and gas industry. He has more than 14 years of experience addressing the technical challenges of oil and gas development in harsh environments, from both operations and research perspectives.
Before joining Wood Group, Dr. Murrin served as Executive Director for the Centre for Arctic Resource Development (CARD), and was previously responsible for delivering on the Research and Development obligations of the Hebron Project on behalf of ExxonMobil. In these roles he fostered strong relationships with academia, private R&D organizations and international oil and gas companies through the negotiation and stewardship of multimillion-dollar projects.
A proud three-time graduate of Memorial University, Dr. Murrin holds undergraduate, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering; his study focused on the phenomenon of vortex-induced vibrations in marine risers using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). He served as a visiting Assistant Professor at Memorial University and in 2009 his contributions to engineering education earned him the Canadian National Award for Innovation in Teaching and Learning. In 2012 Dr. Murrin received the Early Accomplishment Award from Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador in recognition of exceptional achievement in the early years of his professional career and notable leadership in the community.
