100TH ANNIVERSARY OF SEALING DISASTER

(St. John's, NL: 31 Mar 2014) The 100th anniversary of the 1914 sealing disasters was recognized today with a commemorative service held in St. John's and organized by the Home from the Sea campaign, which was initiated by the Elliston Heritage Foundation in 2008 to build awareness about this important date in provincial history. RDC INVESTS IN MARINE INDUSTRY

(St. John's, NL: 05 Mar.2014) The Research & Development Corporation (RDC) is investing $1.9 million in 12 business-led R&D projects that help increase the province’s knowledge-based economy for long-term economic benefit. On behalf of the members of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) across the province, thank you for taking the time to meet with our organization during your recent visit to St. John’s. We appreciated the opportunity to discuss with you directly some of the labour-related issues that this province is facing, including the shortage of skilled labour and the proposed Canada Jobs Grant. Given our aging population and competition from employers in Alberta and other provinces, the shortage of skilled labour is felt acutely in Newfoundland and Labrador.

OCEANS'14 ST. JOHN'S CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Abstracts are now being accepted for papers to be presented at OCEANS 14 MTS/IEEE St. John's. Abstracts must be submitted by March 26, 2014, in one of three categories:
- Regular Technical Program: Abstract submitted for review, technical paper, presentation in technical or poster session at the conference, and publication in IEEE Xplore if all requirements are met. Oral presentation in a poster session, for those authors who prefer this option, is at the discretion of the Technical Program Co-Chairs.
RDC INVESTS IN HARSH-ENVIRONMENT R&D

(St. John's, NL, January 20, 2014), The Ocean Technolgy cluster received a financial boost last week as the Research & Development Corporation (RDC) announced investments of $2.4 million in 11 research and development (R&D) projects that capitalize on Newfoundland and Labrador’s proximity to a harsh, ocean environment. The total value of the research projects is more than $7.9 million, including investments from the private sector and federal funding agencies.

The Maritimes Energy Association will be the lead organizer of an Atlantic Canadian Trade Mission to Palm Beach, Aruba, from October 8-12, 2013. This mission will coincide with the Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF) and is supported by Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Nova Scotia Department of Energy, and Nova Scotia Business Inc .
